About Tran Boelsterli

Tran Boelsterli Photography encompasses my two great passions - a love for life & a love for beauty.

I began taking pictures to capture the beautiful moments all around me, and share its splendor with friends & family.

Growing up in Vietnam, an underdeveloped country, was predictably tough. But my parents ensured that we had a better future than they could possibly envision. We moved to America in the 80's. Even when my parents struggled to put us through college, they never lost their generosity of spirit. My mother, being a teacher, has a profound influence in our lives; it instilled in us the value and significance of education.

When my family visited Vietnam in 2015, I was distraught to see that some things had never changed since I left. My 16-year-old daughter could not wrap her head around the harsh reality of small children on the streets selling merchandise. Some of these children are under the OOSC (Out Of School Children) category, who never had the opportunity to attend school. In addition, existing school facilities in the rural areas are deplorable. Students lack school supplies and food. Their daily life is a vicious struggle. Education, the missing puzzle piece to a quality life, is sadly a distant dream... My father always taught us, "If you cannot afford to donate your money to help someone, then donate your effort". Taking a leaf out of his book, I have created this volunteer endeavor.

Please join me to help the disadvantaged children and natural disasters around the world. When you buy my artwork, your donation goes a long way. All proceeds are distributed to the disadvantaged families by reliable channels (not through any government organization) to ensure that the children have safe warm houses, fed, taken off the streets and eventually be placed where they rightly belong: in Schools.

Below are for some highlights of our projects. My heart goes to our sponsors and friends who continuously dedicated their support year after year. Special thanks to Duy Dang, Sydney Tran, Gene Zhu for their photograph donations to make the yearly calendars as fundraising. The construction of the charitable homes can not be complete without the diligence of Father Thanh Binh and Thom Hong Vu locally in Sapa, Vietnam, (Mai) Bill Bong in Hanoi, Augustine Ton and #LotusSchoolFoundation (our Texas partner). Last but not least, I am so blessed to have my family who has been always there every step of the way.

2019 - Thanh Kim Kindergarden and High Schools Supplies, Scholarship, Food Donation
With the generous support of my artwork purchases and donation, in summer 2019, I achieved my first mission in Sapa to provide the bare necessities such as bag noodles, shoes, sandals, rain jackets, water filter systems to the three schools in Thanh Kim villages. We also helped the children on the streets selling little trinkets, and families who can not afford to keep their children in school due to illness or financial difficulties.

In 2020, we helped the CDC and Oakland zoo due to the COVID19 pandemic, the Wildlife Rescue organizations due to California wildfires. We have provided school supplies and scholarships to three rural mountainous Sapa schools, schools in Central Vietnam where the typhoons hit, meditation centers for young children in California, talented but disadvantaged children in a Texas school band, an infant with congenital hydrocephalus in the Philippines.

2020 - San Kindergarden School Supplies and Food Donation
I worked with the school principals and teachers to plan and purchase the essentials just in time for the school opening in September 2020. The children had warm clothing for this winter, school supplies and other needs.

2020 Compassionate Charitable Home #1
While visited two Sapa schools in September 2019, I met a three-year-old Giang Thi So selling little trinkets on the street until 9 PM. In the link below, there is a short video of her current impoverished home. We decided to build a charity compassion home for her family. Due to COVID19, we could not start the home construction until October 2020, this project is planned to complete in December 2020. Because of the poor infrastructure, the workers must transport up to the mountain by motorcycles and foot 8000 pieces of bricks, 3 tons of cement and 14 tons of sand bags.

2021 Compassionate Charitable Home #2
Chau Thi Te is a widow who was currently living with her three young children. Her husband passed away from an accident while collecting woods in the mountain. Their current home was severely deteriorated. Due to the poor road infrastructure, only motorcycles could carry the materials such as sand bags, cement bags, bricks, etc. Then everything must be carried by foot over the rice terrace! There were about 10,000 pieces of bricks to be hand-carried over the farmland!

2022 Compassionate Charitable Home #3
Giang A Lu has kidney failure and swelling condition. His wife Thao Thi Pang stays home taking care of two small children. They lost their third infant because they did not have a mean of transportation to take him to the hospital while he was sick during COVID.

2023 Compassionate Charitable Home #4
Hoang Thi Yeu, a widow, with four young children are living in Lang Son. Her husband just passed few months prior to our new home construction. The second oldest daughter has intellectual disability. This project is completed. We built a well that feeds two families. Now, Yeu and her parents no longer have to hand-carry water buckets from a spring to their homes. Wishing the four children good health in a safe livable home, continuous education to help their family and community.

2024 Compassionate Charitable Home #5
This is the current project for Vang A Linh, his (house) wife Giang Thi Du, their one-year-old baby and 80-year-old mother. Linh works as a hotel cleaning staff only 170,000 VND = 6.95 USD per week. Please check back this link for progress!
